Are you all ready for LeakyStars 2013? We thought we’d help potential applicants prepare by interviewing 2012 LeakyStars winner Kirstyn Hippe for some tips, memories and inspiration.  Remember, you can apply for LeakyStars 2013 HERE.
What inspired you to enter LeakyStars?
When I saw the LeakyStars announcement, I had been writing wrock songs for a couple years and I thought it would be a great way to get myself out there and combine Harry Potter and performing (two things I adore)! I was also already making YouTube videos regularly, so everything just kind of fell into place.
What was your favorite LeakyCon memory?
I have SO many it’s hard to choose just one, but the best moments (besides LeakyStars) would have to be from Leaky ‘11 for the DH2 premiere and Open at the Close at Wizarding World. Magical is literally the only way to describe those!
What have you been doing since your LeakyStars win?  Any more contests?
Oh wow, I’ve been all over the place! I’ve written more songs since then, both wizard rock and not. I’ve also gotten really into Broadway musicals, so fangirling over those has taken up a lot of my time! Also in October I went to J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy book signing in New York City and was able to look her in the eye and say thank you. It was surreal (and also proves 11:11 wishes DO come true). I think the only contest I’ve entered/won since then was one to win a front row seat and personalized book for a John Green event at the Cincinnati Public Library, but I entered a ton of contests before Leaky last year. I think if I enter any more, people will start getting mad at me or something, haha.
What are you most excited about for LeakyCon 2013? I’m definitely looking forward to performing for the mainstage wizard rock this year! It’s completely crazy to me because I’ve been a fan of all the other performers for so long; I’ve been to their tours and seen them at previous LeakyCons and listened to their music for such a long time. It’s such an honor to share the stage with them! I’m also really excited to meet up with internet friends, of course. If you could tell potential LeakyStars participants one thing, what would it be?
Make friends with the other entrants! It was so much fun to get to know the other people involved with LeakyStars, especially because they’ll be just as nervous and excited as you are. I met so many brilliantly talented people that I now call my friends, and that was one of the highlights of the competition for me :)

LEAKYSTARS UPDATE!

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted videos the first-ever LeakyStars Talent Competition. We were blown away by the responses we received and were absolutely amazed at the incredible level of talent and breadth of creativity in the videos! We were faced with a very tough choice but in the end, three finalists were selected to receive a free Registration to LeakyCon 2012 and the opportunity to perform for a panel of judges at LeakyCon to be crowned this years LeakyStar. We are very pleased to announce those three finalists are: Denley M. (denleymess), Patty P. (argusfilks), and Kirstyn H. (xkirstynhippe). We will be sharing the Finalists’ videos as well as other outstanding entries throughout the week.

Because of the overwhelming amount of creative entries, we will be reaching out to a number of you with opportunities to showcase your talents in other ways around the conference. If you submitted an entry but were not selected as a Finalist, keep an eye on your Inbox because you might still be receiving an email from our staff!

Congratulations again to the finalists and thank you all for your time, effort, and passion in making the first round of LeakyStars such a success! We can’t wait to crown a winner in August!
